The essay length will continue to be capped at 50 words.In February of 2013, The Common Application Board of Directors unveiled five new essay prompts, the first major revision in several years. Remember: 50 words is your limit, not your goal. According to the organization, the development of the prompts and the word limit came after much consideration from the counselors on the Outreach Advisory Committee.The Common App also clarified on its Facebook page that the short answer activity essay will not be part of the main application in 2013-2014. They have not changed for 201-17. When CA4 launched, one of the biggest changes from the previous version was the essay section. Gone were the six essay prompts from the past decade, and college applicants no longer have the Topic of Your Choice option. With CA4, the length limit for the essay was increased from 500 words to 50 (the minimum is 250 words), and students will need to choose from the five options below. The new prompts are designed to encourage reflection and introspection.
